Heat pump repair and service in north Dallas

A heat pump is an air conditioner that can run in reverse, and a growing share of newer homes in Frisco and McKinney have one. Most of the heat pump calls we take are not failures. They are defrost cycles working normally, a thermostat set up as a furnace, or backup heat strips carrying the load because the staging was never configured.

We diagnose the whole system in both modes, fix what is broken from the published book, and set the controls so the heat pump does the work it was bought for.

Questions we get asked

Does a heat pump work when it is 20 degrees out?

Yes, with reduced capacity. The backup heat strips are supposed to fill the gap on the coldest mornings. If they run every day, something in the configuration or the system is wrong, and that is a service call.

Why does my heat pump blow steam in winter?

That is defrost mode. The outdoor coil builds frost and the system briefly reverses to melt it. It is normal. If it happens constantly or the house never warms, that is a service call.
